| September 2012 - The Back to School Edition
Autumn is the favourite season for many of us. The brisk morning air makes for a perfect walk before we head to work, while the colourful leaf displays seem a fair trade for the shorter days.
Thanksgiving (October 8th) and Halloween (October 31) are just around the corner. Halloween falls on a Wednesday, meaning that ghosts and goblins may be out early in the evening, so be careful as you head home from work or school. Whether you are hosting a get together, attending one, or are just looking for a treat, we've included a recipe that uses in-season local fruits and berries.
What's Your Plan?
Is your dental plan based on the calendar year?
If so, your coverage maximums start over on January 1 and your unused benefits may not roll over into the new year. That means if you don't use them, you lose them! If we haven't seen your smile in a while, click here to schedule an appointment in time to benefit from your Plan.
October is Orthodontic Health Month
Straight teeth and proper bite alignment are more important than just a beautiful smile. Straight teeth are essential to gum health, speech, proper chewing and more. Bite alignment contributes to jaw comfort, facial appearance and oral hygiene - and the list goes on. It is never too late to straighten your teeth and correct your bite. We would be pleased to discuss the health and beauty aspects of your mouth. Feel free to request a consultation today!
Remember to be extra careful on the roads and have a safe and healthy month.

| Scared of the Dentist? Consider Sedation!
At our office we often hear stories of childhood experiences at the dentist. Some are heart warming, such as the Muppets toothbrush that you still keep unopened in your top drawer, or how your cavity-free smile is still posted. Other memories are not as likely to induce a smile. To many people the dental office can be intimidating or confusing with its drills and needles.
Does the very mention of these words make you uneasy?
Try and remember your last visit to our office: we're certain that pain is low on the list of your recollections. Dentistry has come a long way in providing comfort and
a low stress environment for patients.
At our office, your comfort, health and safety are all priorities.

Like it or not, summer is coming to an end. While we still have several warm days ahead of us, the night air is already getting brisk. Now is a good time to get a head start on preparing your home for colder months. Since the leaves are still on the trees where they belong, we suggest getting started inside your home.
A good tip when cleaning is to start from the top and work your way down.
If your light fixtures have a dome cover or shape that collects dust and flies, take them down and give them a good wipe. While you're up there dust off the ceiling moldings and any cob webs that may have appeared in the corners.
Your windows have likely been open to let in the fresh air. With the air also came dust and particles from outside.
Remove and clean your screens (you can hose them down with soap and water).
Vacuum the blinds and window treatments, clean the inside frames with a damp cloth and wash the inside surface of the glass. You'll be surprised how much can accumulate on these surfaces.
Remove the pillows from upholstered surfaces and vacuum thoroughly. If you want to shampoo them, this is a good time. If you can, move all furniture into the centre of the room and have a good laugh at the dust bunnies and missing items you find. Vacuum and clean the floor and baseboards around the room.
If you've been thinking of rearranging the furniture, now is a good time or you can simply put the room back together how you started.
